I had secured an internship at this organization through our college placement cell. However, you can apply there directly. You need to send a cover letter, resume and a sample writing of not more than 300-400 words on any legal topic of our choice. The same needs to be mailed at operations@whitecode.legal. This is then followed by a short telephonic interview where basic questions pertaining to your areas of interests and the subjects you have covered are asked. you might even be asked to speak for 2-3 minutes on any topic which interests you. First-day formality

I had reported to the office at 10 am. I introduced myself to Ms. Prachi. She was our mentor for the internship program.  However, we were free to report to sir and discuss with him any of our doubts/queries. I had been asked to enter my name, college name, year of study in the office laptop. I was instructed to enter regularly the reporting and the leaving time in the attendance register. I was then provided with the wifi password and was strictly instructed to use it only for educational purposes. I was allotted a working space.

Major Roles and Responsibilities

I had been working under the corporate team. Bandaru and Bandaru Advocates has 2 sister concerns namely, WhiteCode Legal and Tax for Corporate matters, VIAMediation and Arbitration Centre for Alternate dispute resolution. Since I had been interning under WhiteCode, I was working under the corporate team.

  1. Research Work

I was given to research on topics allotted pertaining to certain ongoing cases with respect to legal compliances, judgments, etc

2. Article Writing

I was required to write on a daily basis 2 current legal news or articles on legal topics of 400-500 words which were to be posted on the Lawsisto website. The submissions were subject to approval by the editorial team subsequent to which it would be published on the website. This definitely helped in improving my legal writing and analytical skills

3. Drafting

I was assigned to prepare 25 drafts of various deeds and agreements under Prachi Mam’s guidance. Since I had never done drafting before, it helped me try my hands at it and helped me learn something new apart from legal research works. I was also given to draft affidavits, legal opinions for clients under the direct supervision of Kalyan Sir

4. Client visits

I even once got an opportunity to accompany sir and mam for one of their client visits.

Work Environment

The work environment was student friendly. We were seven interns working there from different universities; therefore, I got an opportunity to interact with students from different places. The work pressure is not a lot and the associate is very approachable. We could get to discuss all sorts of queries with them.

Interaction with Seniors

They were open to suggestions and feedbacks from us. There was nothing such as we weren’t allowed to speak in front of sir or anything. We had regular meetings with him where he would ask for our opinions on certain points from a student perspective which made us feel involved and welcomed.

Cons

One of the biggest con that some of the students would face would be if a student does not ask for work, he/she might end up not doing even a single task and wasting his whole one month. The seniors are engrossed with work, so no one would have the time to come and allot you work, although one thing is to be kept in mind that all seven of us would be monitored.

Perks

Certificate of Internship, A Letter of Recommendation on an impressive work and you might even end up securing a job for yourself depending on the satisfaction of the seniors.

Suggestions for accommodation or places to chill near the office

One of the best things about this office is the location. It has got a lot of cafes to chill nearby and also in regard to accommodations; you might not face an issue to find one.

Whether the firm provides an extension or whether there is a policy of only a one-month internship?

Yes, it does provide extension depending on the satisfactory performance of the interns.

Overall Experience (Do you recommend this internship to prospective interns)

Yes, I would definitely suggest interning here once since I believe it would be a totally different experience. In fact, they are open to a virtual internship. One point that I would suggest is to always ask for work and never hesitate to stay late when asked for or when you see there’s work as this might help you create a good impression on them.

Highlight of the internship

I have been offered a job as a Managing Editor for Lawsisto for a period of 2 years and this has definitely helped me a lot in improving myself be it with respect to research skills, soft skills or others. I have also been offered to join the firm after college.
