Application Procedure: I applied for the internship by sending an application via email to tamsadv@gmail.com. My application contained my CV with cover letter. In the CV, I mentioned my details, my qualification, internship experiences and also my participation and skills to give more value to my CV. First day formalities: On my first day at internship, I was greeted by the HR. She gave a brief about the association and the work which I would be supposed to do. Then I met the Advocate Thakur Anand Mohan Singh who welcomed me and asked about my past working experiences and my area of particular interest in law. On the first day, I was just supposed to observe the workings of the office like their everyday diary and the lawyers working under the advocate. I even went to the family court with one of the lawyers on my very first day. My first day was very helpful and practical.
Major roles and responsibilities: My major roles and responsibilities would have to be the research work. I was supposed to research about the remarkable Supreme Court or High Court judgments related to the ongoing cases under the advocate. I researched on the cases related to civil law, family law and criminal law. Mostly I was supposed to research on the family Law cases. After researching on the judgments I was supposed to take the print out of the judgment and attach it in the file of the particular case.
Working environment: Working environment was very positive and healthy as there was a sort of healthy competition between the interns. Competition among the interns makes the environment more healthy and exciting to work in. even the lawyers and staff under the advocate were very positive. All the interns helped each other throughout the internship. The advocate and the lawyers were all very supportive and was always looking forward to share their knowledge and experiences and guide the interns about the field and study as much as possible.
Highlights of the internship: For me the highlights of the internship would be the friendly environment. Everyone at the internship at some point made sure there is no such lack of comfort for the interns. We all felt as we were the part of the office.
Experience of interacting with senior: I was always a little nervous while interacting with the senior out of respect. But he always greeted nicely without any irritation which made me a little comfortable to interact with him, even then I was always a little nervous in front of him.
Overall experience: My overall experience was good as apart from research I was also witnessing the court proceedings of the cases I researched for so the insight of the whole case was clear to me. I used to jot down all the points that I understood when the advocate was keeping his points or while hearing the other party’s side so that afterwards while studying the case it was helpful. Time duration was 11am-6pm from Monday-Saturday. I must say the experience was very enlightening, helpful and productive.
Any skills set an intern needs to possess before starting an internship: Knowledge regarding the basic law subjects would be helpful as it will help in clearer vision for you and you might be a helpful assist for an Advocate and the lawyers as well.
Whether the firm provides extension or whether there is a policy of only one-month internship: The firm may provide an extension if they feel the intern is productive and is really working as hard as possible. There is no such strict time limit for an intern.
Suggestions for accommodation: As I live in Raipur, I had no worries for accommodation but to the ones coming from outside can find a P.G. within 1km radius of the office. There are many places to eat and chill within 500m radius. So there won’t be any difficulties near the office.
