Internship Experiences

Internship experience at Hemanth & Associates, Bengaluru

Name, College, Year of Study

Raksha Chauhan, Ramaiah Institute of Legal Studies, 3rd year student (5-year integrated course of B.B.A L.L.B)

Name and address of the organization

Hemanth & Associates, 122, Margosa Road, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560003.

Duration of Internship

20th January 2020 to 3rd February 2020 (2 weeks).

Application Procedure

The application procedure is quite simple. You can directly call on +919844085056 and can ask if they are taking any intern. They will ask you to send your CV to the email hemanth@hemanthassociates.com in case of availability in the office.

First-day impression and formalities

The office is situated in Malleshwaram and is close to the 11th cross Malleshwaram bus stop which makes travel convenient. I reached 30 minutes early and waited outside the office. The first day at the office was warm and welcoming. The other two interns also joined on the same day. The work given however was quite light. The associates were affable and helping. The office timings were 10:00-17:00 hours. You can leave early if you are done with your work. There is no compulsion to stay back and complete the office hours.

Major Roles and Responsibilities

The interns were needed to assist different associates on the ongoing cases. We were also required to report to different district courts in Bengaluru and make a note of important dates mentioned in the court diary and points said in the court. On our court visits, we observed court proceedings. Sometimes, associates allow taking Passover and adjournments.

Work Environment

The work environment was great. Associates were experienced and work-oriented. They did not mind explaining the tasks thoroughly thereby keeping you informed and ensuring the best work from your side. Working hours were flexible. On completion of the work assigned, could leave early after informing your senior.

Experience of Interacting with seniors

Hemanth sir is friendly and makes you feel comfortable around him. He is approachable and sometimes assigns work to interns, usually, Vinay sir does the task of assigning work. The associates interact with interns and treat you as an equal, making the work environment amicable and devoid of Senior- Junior Hierarchy.

Extension of Internship

You can extend your internship a month if you wish to do so. I would recommend not preferring for more than a month as there is not much to do and you can get a fair idea of how actually courts work.

Overall Experience

The associates would not burden you with work. My work was basically related to case reading, visiting different courts and taking further dates of the cases. Court hearings usually happen in Kannada and being a non-native speaker, I could understand a word or more. We were also engaged in a group discussion on different cases. If one is looking for some court experience and to see how courts function then I would suggest giving it a try.

Skill Set

There is no need for any particular set of skills though, one should be well versed with their subjects as it will be easier in understanding case files and ongoing cases in courts.

Suggestions for accommodation

I live in Bangalore so there wasn’t any need for accommodation but the office is situated in Malleshwaram, there is a bunch of places that one can rent out and stay. There are multiple eateries around the area that one can go for lunch or a snack. You can chill at Mantri mall which is nearby to the office. Since Bangalore is known for its greenery, you can explore various parks during different court visits among which Cubbon Park is one of the best places to visit.
