59 China Applications were blocked by Government of India to Protect the Sovereignty and Integrity of the Country [See Notification]

The Government of India of 29th June, 2020 has blocked 59 Chinese application to protect the sovereignty and integrity of India.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has blocked the usage of Chinese apps by invoking Section 69(A) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules, 2009 

The ministry decided to block the apps in view that the information available are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to “sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order.

“At the same time, there have been raging concerns on aspects relating to data security and safeguarding the privacy of 130 crore Indians. It has been noted recently that such concerns also pose a threat to sovereignty and security of our country.”

The IT Ministry also said that it has received many complaints from various sources, including several reports about misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for “stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India”.

On the basis of receiving such information the Ministry finally decided to block all the Chinese applications for its population of 130 crores. 

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs, has also suggested to block the usage of such slain applications. Thus, this major step has taken to protect the Indian citizen’s personal information. The following is the list of blocked apps. The list can be found in the notification attached.
